Dressage at Devon Woods first perfect “10” awarded to our very own Gauguin’s Ideal and Darrel Purdy.

This annual show is one of the most prestigious and well attended competitions in our region and the management always contracts the only the finest Judges.

Despite the triple digit heat Darrel and Gauguin’s Ideal had a brilliant show starting with their Friday morning win under World Cup, World Equestrian games and Olympic “O” judge Cara Whitham with a 70.426%.

Ms. Whitham’s further remarks “ This is a Wonderful mare!”  “She is a big mover, but fluid and elastic.”

Our homebred mare, we call “Boo” is by the Swedish Grand Prix stallion Gauguin de Lully and is out of our Premium Oldenburg mare Isabeau by our stallion Ideal and out of the Premium Thoroughbred mare Today’s Best.

On Saturday, Darrel, the Ultimate Piaffe’s head rider and trainer and Boo won their morning class under “S ” Judge Peggy Klump with a 71.277%, but it was their second test that yielded the “10”.

“I was just heading down to the show office to check my score after enjoying a brunch and freestyles when a car screeched to a stop with facility owner Ginny Rattner and trainer Teri Emrich who excitedly asked if I had seen my test.” Recounts Darrel, “They were so excited to tell me that my girl and I had earned the very first “10”.

The perfect “10” was given for second level test 4’s box 27- the simple change of lead on the center line at “x”. Klump also gave them 2 “9” ‘s for the changes in the serpentine and a 3^rd for the quality of the canter, the bend and the geometry for the serpentine.

The remarks, “Super talent” and “ Well done!” accompanied a 72.157%.
